Rendering and Export

Render PNG images at a chosen resolution, with optional transparency.

Updated

Use Render Settings > Output to define the image size and background behavior.

Set the output

  1. Choose 1920 × 1080, 2560 × 1440, or 3840 × 2160 under Resolution.
  2. Choose Custom to enter Width and Height.
  3. Check the viewport output frame after changing the aspect ratio.
  4. Enable Transparent background if you need alpha.

Width and Height each accept 64 to 8192 pixels. The largest selectable value is not a guarantee that every scene fits in your GPU and system memory.

Render the PNG

Click Render Image, or use File > Render Preview Image... (Ctrl+R), then choose the destination.

The output is a PNG at the selected pixel dimensions. It is rendered from the scene, rather than saved at the current window size.

Understand transparency

Transparent background removes the backdrop from the image. Visible models and the ground remain rendered surfaces. Disable Ground > Visible in the Scene tab if the output should contain only the model.

Inspect the PNG over a contrasting background to check the alpha edges.

Understand preview and renderer limits

HardCuts Render uses a real-time OpenGL presentation renderer. The current workflow exports still PNG images. It does not offer path tracing, a render queue, turntable export, or OpenEXR output.

Solo Light is a temporary viewport inspection mode and does not isolate that light in the PNG. Use the light's Enabled setting to control final output.

Screen-space effects depend on the camera view. See Post Processing for reflection and AO controls.

Save the scene too

Press Ctrl+S to save the .hcrender project after changing the setup. Rendering the PNG does not save the editable project.

If rendering fails at a large resolution, reduce Width and Height and try again. See Troubleshooting.
