Arrays and Symmetry

Repeat shapes or objects and use mirror, symmetrize, and flip operations.

Use arrays for regular repetition. Use Mirror for repeated shape previews, or Symmetrize and Flip to change an existing object's symmetry.

Create an array

  1. Select a scene object or finish the drawing step of a supported shape preview.
  2. Press Q and choose Array.
  3. Choose Linear Array or Circular Array.
  4. Set Array Count and adjust the preview.
  5. Use Ctrl+Click in the viewport to execute the array workflow.

A linear array spaces copies along a direction; Linear Step controls the spacing. A circular array distributes the result around a pivot.

Choose the pivot

Use Center Pivot to return to the centered pivot. Use Pick Pivot Object and click a scene object when repetition should be organized around another part.

The pivot determines the center of circular repetition. If the copies rotate around an unexpected place, inspect the pivot before changing the source object's position.

The viewport may report that the preview is capped for a large instance count. Inspect the count and result when using large arrays.

Mirror an active shape

Open Mirror from the Actions Panel for a supported shape. Use the axis controls to choose the mirror direction.

Use World Center uses the world-centered setup. Use Object Axes changes the reference to object axes. Check the preview before applying the shape to a target.

Symmetrize an object

Select an object, open the Actions Panel, and choose Symmetrize. Click an axis-side point to choose which side is copied to the other.

A normal click replaces the object's geometry with the complete symmetric result and centers its origin and gizmo on that result. For world X symmetry, the center lies on X = 0. Undo also restores the previous origin and any custom gizmo pivot.

The viewport describes the copy direction. Hold Ctrl while clicking an axis-side point to create only the mirrored side as a separate new object. The original stays unchanged; its geometry is not included again in the copy. The new object becomes selected with its origin centered on its own geometry. If the source crosses the symmetry plane, the mirrored side is closed at that plane. Undo removes the new object; redo restores it.

Press A in this tool to toggle between world axes through the world origin and local axes through the object's origin, or Escape to cancel.

Flip an object

Choose Flip in the object's Actions Panel and click the desired local-axis point. This reflects the entire object across the plane perpendicular to that local axis through the object's origin: both sides swap places. Symmetrize instead copies one side and replaces the opposite side.

For mirrored or radial brush strokes, use the separate symmetry controls described in Sculpting.
