Asset Library

Store reusable parts and place assets into a scene.

Updated

The Assets panel holds reusable objects, such as fasteners, vents, handles, panels, and cutters.

Find a part

Use Search assets, the source filter, and All Tags to find assets. The tag dropdown lists the tags currently used in your library.

Assets start in alphabetical order. The sort dropdown offers Name: A to Z, Name: Z to A, Date: newest first, and Date: oldest first. Date sorting uses the last modification date. Your sort choice is remembered.

Source choices include All, Default, User, and Cutters. If a part appears to be missing, clear the filters before looking for it elsewhere.

Place an asset

Drag an asset from the library into the viewport. Inspect the placement preview, then drop it to add the object to the scene.

You can also use Place Asset from the asset context menu. After placement, use the usual object transform controls.

Save your own part

  1. Select a scene object.
  2. Choose Assets > Manage > Create Asset from Selection, or Create Asset from the outliner context menu.
  3. Complete the asset details and save.
  4. Find the new part using the User source filter.

Give the asset a descriptive name and tags so it remains easy to find as the library grows.

Update an asset's presentation

Use Rename Asset to change its library name. Update Screenshot from Selection refreshes the asset thumbnail from the selected object.

Right-click an asset and choose Edit Tags... to add, rename, or remove its tags, then Save. Existing library tags are suggested as you type. Tags are saved with the asset and included in exports.

Choose Manage > Manage Tags... to rename or remove a tag throughout the library. These changes apply immediately; renaming to an existing tag merges the tags. The default and kitbash tags on default assets are managed by the library.

Import and export assets

Use Manage > Import Assets... to add an asset package. Select library entries and choose Export Selected Assets... to share or back up those assets.

An asset package is for reusable library content. Use a .hcproj file to save an entire modeling project, or mesh export to exchange geometry with another application.
