Boolean Cutters

Build the structure with a cut.

Use a primitive, a drawn shape or an existing object to change another form. Position the source, choose the operation and apply it to the target to build the structure of a hard surface model.

Choose what the operation should do

Subtract removes overlapping volume, Union combines volumes, Intersect keeps the overlap and Slice splits the target along the cutter boundary. Create or Add makes a new object from a shape. Each tool exposes its supported operations; trim tools offer Subtract and Slice.

Place and refine a cutter

Start a shape such as Cylinder, position it over the target and choose Subtract in the Actions Panel with Q. Hold Ctrl and click the target to apply. Extend a cutter beyond both sides for a through-hole, or let it end inside the target to make a recess.

Reuse a modeled source

Select an existing scene object and choose Subtract, Union, Intersect or Slice in the Actions Panel, then Ctrl+Click the target. Inspect the viewport instruction text to confirm the source and operation. Escape or Cancel Boolean leaves the targeting workflow.

Good to know

Why can a small cut disappear?

The object resolution must be fine enough to represent the feature. Inspect the voxel size, remesh at a suitable resolution and retry. Slice with multiple cutters is currently unsupported; use one cutter for that operation.
