Volume Clip

Hide volume. Refine the shape. Reveal it again.

Volume Clip extends voxel hide into an editable modeling workflow. Work on the visible part of a high-poly model, adjust the clipping shape and restore hidden regions while you explore the form.

A more flexible voxel hide workflow

Use Volume Clip while developing a hard surface silhouette, inspecting an interior or isolating an area that is obscured by the rest of the model. Draw through the object volume to hide a region, then restore hidden volume when you want to bring it back. Hiding is separate from committing a new mesh.

Draw a clip, then refine its shape

Choose Rectangle, Circle or Polygon. Adjust the available draft handles to resize or reshape the clip, or use Move, Rotate and Scale to transform it. Polygon points can be repositioned individually. This lets you refine the cut boundary before applying the current clipping gesture.

Control what remains visible

Invert affects the volume outside the drawn shape. Opacity Hidden controls how much of the hidden region remains visible as a reference. Choose None, X, Y or Z to apply each clip at the drawn location or mirror it across one local axis. Where supported by the current clip, Bevel and Chamfer shape its edges.

Keep the clip or apply the visible result

Once the active edit is finished, keep working with the clipped object or choose Apply Visible. Apply Visible turns the visible, closed result into mesh geometry. The removed region is then no longer a hidden volume that you can simply reveal; Undo is the way back to the previous state.

Slice Hidden: extract a separate part

Slice Hidden is one action within Volume Clip. It copies the hidden volume into a separate object while preserving the original object and its clip. The new object keeps its position and material and becomes selected. Use this when a hidden region should become a reusable part instead of being discarded.

Good to know

How is Volume Clip different from a boolean cut?

Volume Clip lets you hide and restore regions while working with the object's volume. Applying a boolean changes the target geometry. In Volume Clip, Apply Visible is the explicit step that commits the visible result as mesh geometry.

Does Slice Hidden replace Volume Clip?

No. Slice Hidden is one option inside Volume Clip, alongside hiding, revealing, editing clip shapes and Apply Visible. It creates a separate object and keeps the original object and its clip.

Can I soften the clipping edges?

Bevel and Chamfer are available when supported by the current clip. Use the controls exposed by that clip rather than assuming every shape or state supports the same edge treatment.

Why are Circle or Polygon sometimes unavailable?

Older or brush-created hidden volume can prevent those shapes from being used. Restore that hidden volume first and follow the tool's message. Finish any active clipping gesture before using Apply Visible or Slice Hidden.
