Lathe

Create a complete form from one profile.

Build knobs, collars and other rotational parts by revolving a profile around an axis. Refine the silhouette in the profile editor while positioning the whole preview in the scene.

Refine a rotational silhouette

Choose Lathe in Shapes and place its preview. Open the Shape properties and edit Profile to change how the surface develops along the lathe axis. Use Reset to return to the starting profile when needed. Moving or scaling the overall preview is separate from editing the profile.

Use the form in the model

Choose Create in the Actions Panel to make a new scene object, or choose a supported boolean operation to affect a target. Inspect the resulting silhouette from several views and continue with transforms, cutters or brushes as the design needs.

Good to know

When should I use Profile Sweep instead?

Use Lathe when the form revolves around an axis. Use Profile when a cross-section should travel along an editable path, such as a pipe or rail.
