Symmetrize / Flip
Balance a form or turn it around.
Build a matching opposite side or reflect an entire part. Symmetrize and Flip work on scene objects, with different results for completing a balanced model and reversing an existing shape.
Try it in HardCuts
- Copy one side
- Reflect the whole object
- Local / world symmetry
- Separate mirrored parts
Complete a symmetric object
Select an object, open the Actions Panel and choose Symmetrize. Click an axis-side point to choose which side is copied. A normal click replaces the geometry with the complete symmetric result and centers the origin and gizmo on that result.
Choose the reference or make a separate part
Press A inside Symmetrize to switch between world axes through the world origin and local axes through the object origin. Hold Ctrl while clicking an axis-side point to create only the mirrored side as a separate object, keeping the original unchanged.
Flip the entire object
Choose Flip and click the desired local-axis point. This reflects the whole object across the plane perpendicular to that axis through its origin, swapping both sides. Symmetrize instead copies one side over the other. Check the indicated direction before applying.
Good to know
Is this the same as brush symmetry?
No. Mirror and radial brush settings repeat sculpting strokes. Symmetrize changes the existing object by copying one side, while Flip reflects its entire geometry.
