Lighting and Environments
Light a model with studio presets, HDRI environments, and editable lights.
Updated
Use a studio preset for a quick setup, then refine the environment and individual lights.
Apply a studio
Open Studio Library > Studios and double-click a preset:
- Studio Neutral
- Studio Warm
- Lookdev Contrast
- Bright Product
- Soft Diorama
A studio applies a complete lighting setup. Apply it before fine-tuning individual lights, because changing the studio can replace the light rig.
Choose an environment
Open Studio Library > HDRI and double-click an environment. The bundled choices are Studio Neutral, Softbox Hall, Studio Warm, Overcast Day, and Lookdev Contrast.
In Render Settings > Scene, adjust Environment strength and Rotation. Rotation moves the environment's lighting and reflected features around the model.
The HDRI library currently exposes bundled presets. It does not provide arbitrary HDR/EXR file import.
Edit individual lights
Select a light in Scene to open its Properties. To add one, use the Scene panel's context menu and its Add submenu.
| Type | Use |
|---|---|
| Directional | Lighting from a consistent direction. |
| Area | A rectangular emitter with Width and Height controls. |
| Spot | Focused lighting with Inner Cone and Outer Cone controls. |
| Point | Lighting around a position. |
Adjust Intensity, Tint, and optionally Use Temperature and Temperature. Placement controls depend on the light type.
For an Area light, larger Width and Height produce softer shadows. For a Spot light, the Outer Cone must be at least as wide as the Inner Cone.
Preview and compare
Toggle Enabled to include or exclude a light. Cast Shadows controls supported shadow output; Point lights currently have no cubemap shadows.
Use Solo Light to inspect a light temporarily. Solo is a viewport preview aid and does not change the rendered output. Disable other lights with Enabled if the final PNG should use only one light.
Use Ctrl+D to duplicate the selected light and Delete to remove it.
For stage appearance, continue with Background and Ground.
