Deformation Tools

Reshape an object with Bend, Field Deform, Rig, and Lattice tools.

Select an object and open Tools > Deform to choose a deformation tool. Use the preview to judge the shape before applying it.

Bend Tool

  1. Select the object and choose Bend Tool.
  2. Choose the Axis and set an Angle.
  3. Set Affect to Both, Positive, or Negative to choose which side of the pivot is affected.
  4. Use Influence > Global or Region for the intended scope.
  5. Inspect the result and click Apply, or use Cancel to discard it.

Drag the center handle to move the pivot. Hover the handle and use the mouse wheel to change the bend angle. Reset Region resets the region, and Reset resets the bend.

Field Deform Tool

Choose Field Deform Tool to change a localized part of the object. The Actions Panel exposes the applicable movement or rotation mode and controls for the deformation region.

Place and adjust the region in the viewport, then manipulate the deformation handles. Use the local-axis mirror options when the same change should appear on the opposite side.

Inspect the influence boundary as well as the center of the deformation. The transition area determines whether the result blends smoothly into the surrounding form.

Rig Tool

Choose Rig Tool and use Build mode to create the control connections. Switch to Edit to adjust an existing connection.

The Actions Panel exposes Rotate and Bend behavior, World or Bone axes, and Influence and Falloff. Select a connection before changing its behavior.

Use Apply to commit the deformation, Reset to reset it, or Cancel to leave the tool without applying the current edit.

Lattice Tool

Choose Lattice Tool to reshape the object through a control cage. Set the cage divisions with the X, Y, and Z controls in the Actions Panel.

Select cage controls and move them to reshape the object. Start with a small number of divisions for broad changes. Use Apply, Reset, or Cancel in the tool's Actions Panel.

Inspect the result

Check the silhouette and thin regions from several views before applying. If the mesh is too coarse for the intended deformation, see Voxel Remesh and Surface Cleanup.
