Voxel Remesh and Surface Cleanup
Choose an appropriate working resolution and clean up an object's surface.

Voxel remeshing rebuilds an object's surface at a chosen voxel size. Use it when you need a different working resolution for cutting, sculpting, or surface cleanup.
Change the resolution
- Select the object.
- Choose Voxel Remesh in the viewport toolbar, Actions Panel, or the outliner's Surface context menu.
- Inspect the interactive grid.
- Adjust the voxel size with the mouse wheel, + / -, or numeric input.
- Press Enter to apply, or Escape to cancel.
The default shortcut Shift+R opens the adjustment. Ctrl+R repeats remeshing with the last confirmed resolution.
Choose a voxel size
A smaller voxel size supports finer geometric details and uses more processing time and memory. A larger size produces a coarser result and can remove small holes, narrow gaps, and thin walls.
Judge the grid against the smallest feature you want to preserve. Test the result on a saved project version before committing to a major resolution change.
Remeshing can change the visible surface and topology. It does not restore details that were already removed by an earlier coarse operation.
Smooth the surface
Right-click an object and choose Surface > Smooth... to open the smoothing operation.
Use small adjustments when preserving crisp edges matters. Inspect narrow grooves and corners after applying. For local smoothing, use Smooth Brush instead.
Relax or hollow
Surface > Relax Surface provides another surface cleanup operation. Surface > Hollow... creates a hollowing workflow for the selected object.
For a printed result, check wall thickness and the resulting mesh through Preparing for 3D Printing.
When an imported mesh changes appearance
The import dialog can preserve the imported mesh while preparing volume data, or rebuild the displayed mesh from that volume. A later geometry operation can expose differences at the selected resolution.
See Projects, Import, and Export for the Representation choices.
