Region Extrusion and Damage

Extract a selected region and add controlled edge damage.

Updated

The Tools > Utility group includes Extrude and Damage. Both work on a selected object.

Extract a region

  1. Select the source object and choose Extrude.
  2. Choose Rectangle or Lasso under Selection.
  3. Draw the region on the object. Hold Ctrl while drawing to subtract from the mask.
  4. Choose Surface or Through Volume under Depth Mode.
  5. Set Extrude Depth and click Extract Region.

Use Clear Mask to start the selection again. Surface and Through Volume change the depth of the selected region; inspect the preview from another angle before extracting.

This region tool is separate from extruding a closed CAD sketch. See Sketches and Extrusion for that workflow.

Add edge damage

  1. Select one object and choose Damage.
  2. Adjust Amount, Size, and Depth.
  3. Use Irregularity and Cracks to vary the appearance.
  4. Adjust Edge Threshold to control which convex edges qualify.
  5. Click Apply to commit, or Cancel to discard the preview.

Amount controls the probability and density of damage placement. Size is relative to the object bounds. Edge Threshold is the minimum normal angle for eligible convex edges.

Try another damage pattern

Change Seed or click Randomize to generate another placement pattern. Keep the seed when you want to retain the same pattern while adjusting its size or depth.

Begin with small values and inspect thin sections. Damage changes geometry; it is different from the appearance-only mask effects described in HardCuts Render Material Layers.
