Reference Images

Load and align a reference backdrop while modeling.

Use Backdrop to keep a reference image visible while matching a silhouette or checking proportions.

Load a reference

  1. Align the camera to Front, Right, or Bottom.
  2. Open Tools > Utility > Backdrop.
  3. Press Q to show the Actions Panel.
  4. Click Load and choose the image.

The active view determines the reference slot. If no suitable slot is active, the viewport asks you to align the camera.

Adjust the image

Use Fit to fit the reference to the view and Opacity to make the model easier to see over it. Reset resets the reference transform.

Enable Lock when the image is positioned so that later modeling gestures do not accidentally move the reference.

Replace or remove a reference

Use Replace to load a different image into the active slot. Clear removes that slot's image.

Press Escape to close the backdrop tool.
